Windows 200x / Exchange 200x Installation / Troubleshooting Notes

If you are having trouble installing Agenda/X on a Windows 2000/2003 and/or Exchange 2000/2003 Server, please follow the below steps:
Please note that references to CDO.DLL do not apply to the current V5.x release of Agenda/X. V5.x uses only MAPI32.DLL to access Calendar information on Exchange Server. Because of recent  instabilities of CDO.DLL, we have rewritten the whole Agenda/X Update Service to use MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface) instead of CDO (Collaboration Data Objects).

Make sure to install the Exchange 5.5 Administrator from the Exchange 200x CD-ROM on the Agenda/X Server. This will install a working MAPI environment.

Add the ExchSrv\BIN path to the PATH environment variable (My Computer / Properties / Advanced / Environment Variables / System Variables / Path)
Please provide a 'Logon Mailbox' to use to logon to the addressbook during Agenda/X Setup, instead of selecting 'Logon anonymously'. This mailbox doesn't need any special permissions, you can select any. We recommend to select a mailbox that will not be deleted in the future, for example 'Administrator'. This mailbox is only used to read the Exchange addressbook.
Verify the permissions of the account that you use to start the Agenda/X Update Service. This account should have 'Receive As' and 'Administer Information Store' permissions on the mailbox store. Do not use the Built-in System account. Also, don't add this account to any of the Domain / Enterprise Admins or Exchange groups. It should just be in the local Administrators group and have the 'Log on locally' and 'Log on as a service' rights.
Check the version of both MAPI32.dll and CDO.dll in your SYSTEM32 directory, they should both be the same and match the Version of Exchange Server and Exchange SP installed.
Run the Registry Editor and search for "MAPI.Session". The key found contains a 'InprocSrv32' entry, which should point to the CDO.DLL in the SYSTEM32 directory. If this is not the case, run "regsvr32 c:\winnt\system32\cdo.dll" from the command line.
Check your harddisk for other occurences of the 2 above mentioned files and make sure they are all the same version like the one in your SYSTEM32 directory.
If you have Outlook installed on the Agenda/X server, each time Outlook is started, it will change the MAPI configuration, if you answer Yes to the following warning:
"A recently installed program may cause MS Office or other e-mail-enabled programs to function improperly. Outlook can resolve this conflict without affecting the program that originally caused the problem. Do you want Outlook to resolve this problem? Yes/No"
Although installing Outlook on the Agenda/X server is not recommended, if you did, be sure to answer NO to this prompt at all times, otherwise, Outlook will replace the installed MAPI32.DLL with an old version (V1.0.xxxx).
Set a registry key on the machine that runs the Agenda/X Update Service to force MAPI to use the correct Global Catalog Server:
1. On the Start menu, click Run.
2. In Open, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks).
3. Locate the following registry key: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Exchange Provider
4. Right-click Exchange Provider, point to New, and then click String Value.
5. Type "ds server" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.
6. Right-click ds server, and then click Modify.
7. In Value data, type the NETBIOS name of the global catalog server, if you have more than one global catalog server, specify the one that also hosts Microsoft Exchange.
If Outlook 2003 clients are used, install the CDO hotfix for Outlook 2003
(Exchange 2000: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;824960 or
Exchange 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823343) on the Exchange Server, then copy the CDO.DLL and MAPI32.DLL installed to the Agenda/X servers WINNT\system32 folder and register CDO.DLL by issuing the following command on the command prompt:
regsrv32 c:\winnt\system32\cdo.dll
If the Agenda/X Update Service is not running without errors in the Application Event Log after applying the steps above, and you receive a "General Error - DoCycle" error in the application event log, it may be due to a corrupt mailbox.
You can check which one is causing problems by setting

[Config]
TimeLog=1

in AgentX.ini. This will generate an additional Application Event Log entry for each mailbox scanned. Like this, you can see during which mailbox scan the process fails. If you see that only one mailbox is creating this problem, and the others are scanned fine, you can remove it from the Agenda/X groups and try again. Repeat these steps until you don't get any more of these error messages. If the Service then runs without problems, you have to backup the contents of the mailboxes into *.PST files, delete, and recreate the mailboxes, then import the data from the *.PST files again.

On the virtual directory you create for Agenda/X, enable the 'Enable parent paths' option (Virtual directory properties / Configuration / Options / Enable parent paths). This option is disabled by default on Windows 2003.

Enable ASP files. To do so, go to Control Panel / Add Remove Software / Add Remove Windows Components / Application Server / Internet Information Services (IIS) / World Wide Web Service / and check Active Server Pages.
If you receive the error
DOMAIN/Username was unable to connect as /o=Organization/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=Mailbox_distinguished_name. Error 0x3f2
make sure that the mailbox exists on the Mailbox Store.
When a user is created and a mailbox assigned, most mail attributes are assigned, but the mailbox is not yet visible on the Mailbox Store. Mailbox rights for the Administrator, Exchange Domain Admins, etc. other than 'Self' are not assigned to a mailbox before the first message is sent to it.
If the mailbox doesn't exist on the Mailbox Store, send an e-mail to this user to create it automatically.

We hope that these steps help you to successfully install Agenda/X on a Windows 200x / Exchange 200x server. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.
