Whereabouts is a distributed system for maintaining an on-line view of the current location of personnel in an organisation.
In any but the smallest organisation there is a problem of keeping people informed of where everyone is located at any time. This is a classic problem of distributing information around an organisation.
Whereabouts does not aim to be a mechanism for maintain a complete schedule of all the people in the organisation or the detail of their current tasks. It is not an activity planner, it is targeted at storing short term location information. It is aimed as an extension to Microsoft Outlook and Schedule+ functionality to give a simple concise summary of the location of nominated people rather than a full appointments and meeting booking application. Information can easily be transferred to and from Outlook and Schedule+.
Whereabouts uses the latest technology in the form of Microsoft Exchange for storing and distributing this information.
